Ruff once lived a happy life. Ruff was a dog, owned by a kind of loving master in his eighties. They played together, they eat together, and when the time came, they would walk together. Nothing was more fun nor as exciting as the walk, for during the walk Ruff would always find something new, something interesting, something exciting. With his master, they shared a very happy life together.
Then tragedy struck. The strange black creatures suddenly appeared. They did things that were terrifying to Ruff. They stole the hearts of other innocent creatures, and half of the time, the innocent creatures would in turn transform into the black creatures.
Most unusual was their scent. Ruff could smell all kinds of scents; sweet scents, sour scents, burning scents, cooling scents, but the scents of these were... unnatural. They smelled of some kind of... something... something that could only be described as terrifying... if Ruff had to describe it, he would choose to describe the scent as black. It was the closest he could think of.
His master had abandoned him, but Ruff forgave him for it. After all, the black smelling creatures were terrible monsters. Ruff would much prefer that his master would be safe and sound then to risk his life for him.
Cornered and trapped with no place to go, Ruff found himself surrounded by the black smelling creatures. The last thing he saw were the black smelling creatures attacking as a swarm.

It once lived a happy life. It was a Heartless, a shadow to be more precise, amoung thousands and thousands of others just like it. It called them It's hive, and It loved them very much. They would play together, they would eat together, and when it was time to hunt, they would hunt together. And they did a lot of hunting. It was It's favorite past time, and nothing was more fun nor more important than the hunt. With It's hive, they all lived a very happy life together.
Then tragedy struck. The strange white creatures suddenly appeared. They did things that were terrifying to it. They were agile, they were quick, and they were somehow always one step ahead. With no effort, one of these strange white creatures could take down twenty shadows.
Most unusual was their scent. It could smell all kinds of scents; happy scents, sad scents, angry scents, scared scents, but the scents of these were... unnatural. They smelled of... nothing. How could something be there and not have a scent? It was almost as if it was never there at all, but that makes less sense. How can something be there and yet not be there at the same time? How can something be something and nothing at the same time? If It had to describe it, It would choose to describe the scent as empty. It was the closest it could think of.
One of the empty smelling creatures seemed especially excited to see It. The empty smelling creature gave chase, and It was running for It's life.
It was abandoned by It's hive, but It forgave them for it. They are only trying to survive, and in the hive, only those that survive are fit to continue.
Cornered and trapped with no where to go, It was face to face with the empty smelling creature. The last thing It saw was the empty smelling creature attacking with fierce passion.

Without understanding why, Ruff found himself in a place he did not recognize. This wasn't his home... it was some kind of... town... a town full of other confused and lost innocent creatures such as himself.
The last thing he remembers was being attacked by a swarm of the black smelling creatures. They were gone now, though.
Ruff felt relieved, for somehow, he survived the attack. It was a miracle, it had to be.
With no other course laid out for him, Ruff began his search for his master. Surely his master was somewhere here, surely.
